Individual psychotherapy:
As a depth psychotherapy the sessions for individuals are held weekly. Ideally we will meet at the same time, day and place to allow for the containment and rhythm that is required to support sometimes difficult or very early material. If you are experiencing significant dissociation it may be necessary to attend twice a week during the middle part of therapy. I prefer to work medium to long term to enable a depth enquiry into areas beyond the cognitive.
Initially, we work for six sessions (this is the minimum amount of work that can be agreed upon) and then hold a review to look at the work so far and to make a plan forward which may be more sessions, perhaps open ended if there are problems which have been troubling you for a long time. Sometimes the work ends at the sixth session as it may be beneficial for you to work with a different therapist, perhaps using a different approach. Child and couple work is often shorter term and may involve one or two sessions initially, and perhaps a plan for support on a fortnightly basis.
Telephone and email sessions:
There is no substitute for meeting and working face to face, however, as a result of the changes in the way that psychotherapy is delivered through the COVID-19 pandemic I am working remotely with people through:-
Landline
Mobile phone
Skype
Zoom
Email
Live text sessions
Cancellations.
Please note that there will be a charge for any appointments that you cancel at late notice-for whatever reason. If, for example, you cannot keep your regular weekly appointment , there will be a charge for that appointment in order to hold it for you for the next week. If you decide to end your therapy, I ask that you attend two sessions to integrate and close the work. This still applies even if we are working remotely. If you are unsure about the level of commitment that psychotherapy requires it may not be right for you at this time. There are many other resources out there for emotional health, and some modalities that work in a short term, looser way. I do ask that you think about this before we start working together.
Please note that psychotherapy is my livelihood, I dont have another job, or income stream, so it is really helpful if payment is made in advance. This also means that we can focus entirely upon you, your process, and a depth, skillful psychotherapy session without having to follow up funds, or send reminders, which tends to be time consuming and somewhat puncturing of the therapeutic field.
What next?
The initial consultation assessment is £85.00.This gives you an opportunity to describe what you would like to get out of coming to therapy at this time, and to ask any questions that you may have about my approach, training or qualifications. It is important that we feel able to work together and it can be useful to have time and space to reflect on that before starting work together. Sometimes it may be that a colleague or another service may be more helpful for you and I may refer on. There is no obligation on either side. At times I consider a longer assessment period of a few sessions to look more into your childhood history and to consider your attachment patterning and how that might be supported by psychotherapy.
