Welcome

Psychotherapy and counselling in South Devon for adults, couples, and parent/child. Clinical supervision for charities, NHS, statutory sector and trainees. Consultant psychotherapist public sector, NHS and agencies. Mental health issues, trauma, loss, and relationship.

I work integratively, primarily with psychodynamic influences, mindfulness and neuroscience to include the polyvagal approach. I support people to understand the autonomic nervous system and it's connection with adverse childhood experiences, chronic ilness and emotional regulation. I am fascinated by lucid dreaming and encourage awareness of liminal spaces, and journaling.

Recent influences have been Porges, Van der Kolk and Fisher in expanding our understanding of defensive responses and our window of tolerance. I am interested in the relationship between early attachment, transgenerational trauma and complex ptsd. This has led me to explore further training with the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation in working with complex traumatic dissociation.

My name is Kay, thank you for looking at my site. I have thirty years of experience in helping people through stressful times and emotional health difficulties. I have specialist mental health knowledge and therapeutic skills gained through extensive NHS experience. Recent work as a consultant psychotherapist includes external supervision in the field of rape crisis and childhood sexual abuse, the key working pilot for families experiencing complex needs, social services, and the NHS.

I work with individual adults, couples and parent/child on a short to medium term of four to twelve sessions, or a long term basis with the aim of enabling you to deepen self-awareness, to overcome difficulties and resolve habitual patterns that may no longer serve you in well-being and relationship. You will be met with warmth, respect and interest in whatever it is that is troubling you.

Having worked at a senior level in a maximum secure psychiatric hospital and inner city community mental health teams, I have experience in working with significant psychological and emotional difficulty. Social justice and human rights inform my work. Areas of special interest include complex trauma and dissociative disorders, attachment issues, trans-generational trauma, family secrets, bereavement where there has been an unexpected death or homicide, and survivors of childhood sexual abuse. People who are experiencing severe and enduring mental health problems, people who have a diagnosis, and people in crisis are welcome. I am familiar with the Mental Health Act and it's application. I am a training supervisor for Master's degree supervisee's at the Karuna Institute, a UKCP Humanistic and Integrative training college in Bristol, UK.
